Set against the untamed beauty of southern Ikaria, this unique development by Cocoon Modules redefines sustainable island living. The project consists of four independent residences, each formed by pairing two upcycled 20-foot shipping containers and arranged around a tranquil square canvas, fostering both privacy and community. At the heart of the development lies a welcoming communal area, constructed from two 40-foot shipping containers, offering residents a shared space to gather, unwind, and connect.

Each home is carefully sited among ancient olive trees and follows the natural contours of the land, ensuring a minimal intervention approach that preserves the site’s wild character. The architecture draws inspiration from the rugged Ikariote landscape, with a restrained palette of earthy colors that echo the muted greens of olive leaves, the grays of local stone, and the brilliant blues of the surrounding Aegean Sea.

Floor-to-ceiling openings frame unobstructed panoramic views, inviting the ever-changing seascape and wild southern horizon into the interior living spaces. Outdoor terraces extend each home seamlessly into the landscape, blurring the boundaries between inside and out.

Central to the project’s ethos is sustainability: by employing upcycled shipping containers, the development significantly reduces its environmental footprint, while also enabling a highly efficient construction process. The entire complex, including infrastructure and communal facilities, was delivered in just eight months—an exceptional feat for a remote island setting.
